Roberts happenings and twin pregnancy life at 31 weeks!

Wow! I can't believe the last time I posted was 6 weeks ago. A lot has happened in 25 weeks and things (my belly in particular) have grown quite large. Lets start with the Roberts happenings. For the 4th of July we kept it pretty low key. We stayed in town and watched the fireworks from our dining room window. That was pretty exciting, but it was all the excitement we could handle. Eric and I celebrate 4 years of blissful marriage on July 22nd. I wanted a nice dinner. More specifically a steak, baked potato and a fresh green salad. is that too much to ask? We found a place called Curleys. As this the fourth year of our marriage passed I had very mixed feelings. I am so excited for what the future holds for Eric and I. We will be holding 2 beautiful babies on our next anniversary and in less than 6 weeks our lives will NEVER be the same. I am so excited and nervous and happy and scared. It is a turning of a page in our lives. We will never be just us again. We are on to bigger things and can't wait to become parents. This summer has been pretty mild in Missoula. We've enjoyed spending lots of time in the parks here grillaxin with our friends Brodie and Ashley and their new addition Olivia. (or as i like to call her: Miss O) At the end of July we moved into a 3 bdrm townhouse in student housing. We are so grateful that we have so many generous friends that were so willing to help us in the process. I was pretty much useless. I wiped down a few things, threw some things in boxes and pointed my finger but much more than that and i'd have a contraction. So here we are in a new place and we love it. We are still unpacking and so things are in shambles. We'll be sure to post pics of the new place when it becomes our home. We also heard about a thing called the Stevensville Creamery Picnic. It is held every August and this was the 90 something year. We decided to go with Brodie, Ashley, and Miss O to see what we could see. What we saw was AWESOME! We learned how to milk a cow. (although, eric could have taught us how with his eyes closed) We ate BBQ pork (the most delicious ever) and got free ice cream and looked at little craft booths. All in all that was a great day and it was mostly free! I still want some more pulled pork!
Now on to life at 31 weeks with twins. I am measuring what a "singleton" mom would measure at 40 weeks. So at 31 weeks i'm the size of the rest of you moms that deliver at 40 weeks. this does not comfort me when I think of what i'll be at 35 weeks. (pray that i make it that far for the kids' sake!) My docs are super impressed at how well my diabetes has been and that i'm doing so well with a twin pregnancy. I still work pretty close to full time and I guess that usually stops around 28-30 weeks. I take a 2 hour lunch so i can go home and get a decent nap. it helps a little, but i'm pretty sure it will only last another week or two before I call it quits so the babies can make it past 34 weeks. Nothing on my body has swelled except my belly and my feet. I hope I can keep it up! My feet get pretty big and thats always fun to see. Eric will reassure me of how much he loves me and then say things like, "your feet look like latex gloves blown up." or when i put my feet on him he'll say, "get your blowfish feet off me!" but my favorite was when i said look how huge my feet are at 29 weeks! Whats going to happen when i'm34 weeks? He said, "i know sweetheart. you'll look like a thanksgiving day parade float, but you'll still be pretty." (he's lucky I have a sense of humor and love him to pieces.) I get comments everyday from women about how great I look and that I'm doing so great and keep it up and comments from men every day about how miserable i look and it must be really rough. I know this is their way of sympathizing and although it is said on days i'm usually feeling great, I try to think of these male comments in a positive way. The kids for the most part feel like they are on some sort of spin cycle. It is nuts! they are constantly moving and it is so fun to push and have them push back. I had an ultrasound on July 21st and they weighed approx. 3 lbs each. I have another scheduled for tomorrow and can't wait to find out how much they weigh now. It is scary for me to think that realistically they could be here any day, hopefully we can make it 3 or 4 more weeks and that even seems crazy to me. In fact I start to panic if i think too much about it. So i'll stop! Things really are going great and i can't really complain much. If I do, Eric is usually the one that hears about it. However, when patients at the office (also pregnant pts) ask me how i'm doing, I refuse to lie. I tell them i'm "hanging in there" and "hoping to make it another month." I wish I would have kept a tally on how many times my conversations with strangers went exactly like this, "Oh, how much time left?" or " not much longer, huh?" or "any day now right?" or "when's the due date?" my usual response? "oh, i still have awhile. I'm due in October." That is when a chin drops or i have to perform CPR or at least pick them up off the ground. Then I explain i am having twins and that makes it all better. Then I usually get a "bless your heart." or "oh, you poor thing." or "hang in there" or my gosh!" Yesterday a lady finally caught on in a public restroom. She said, "whoa there mama!" (seriously, those were her first words to me) "you must be due any day." I responded, "I wish. I'm due in October." (i'll be honest. I know they'll get here in september, but i like the reaction.) She said, "oh, you must be having twins?!" I felt like saying one of two things. 1-What if i wasn't? or 2- You are the first person who actually guessed that. I've been told plenty i don't look pregnant from the back and so that makes me feel better about things. I don't feel huge, but watch me try to sit down or get up. I know i'm getting there! :) These pics won't lie, so i'll just post them. Sorry for all of the rambling. I'll stop now. I just realized its been 6 weeks and no posts. Not much excitement. Closer to a due date and getting ready for it. Thats about it! Until next time.......

You do look good! I'm excited for you! I was 31 weeks when I went into pre-term with Evie. Almost 36 when I had her. So I'm with you on the 'hanging in there!' I know how much those last few weeks really do help!

Accept any help you can, even if you don't want to. A meal here and there really makes a difference - if anyone's offering! I would totally bring you dinner, but...it would be cold.

Love ya!

Yeah I know how you feel! If you can remember I was on bed rest with KJ. So if I went out in public(which I wasn't suppose to...hehehe) I was in a wheelchair. Sadly I was as big as you appear to be and I only had one!

Oh girl...
I remember walking into OneStop (back in the day... its no longer)
and being 5 months pregnant with Yvette and someone saying... anyday now right? WRONG! Try 4 more months.

Twins.
I envy you in some ways... in others not so much. But I do beleive that the end result is better than the pregnancy.

sara, I love the Costco pic. you should frame it or at least keep it easliy accessible for when your twins grow up and start giving you trouble. I got your blog site off of Brittany Taits. Hope you don't mind. Feel free to check on our fam @ heyfromthehaynes.blogspot.com
Let me know of there's anything we can do. We'll be back in town next week. -Rach

I totally hear you on the so-called "sympathetic" comments you receive from people while pregnant. It seems like total strangers turn into bumbling idiots when they encounter a pregnant woman and feel like they must point out the obvious -- her size. I'm glad you're taking it in stride. I did too -- but I often had a great comeback on the tip of my tongue that I tried not to use :)

unlike our nice friend Lisa, I did start coming back with my own annoying questions for strangers who asked the obvious.

so i'm not going to sugar coat this, you are huge. your feet.. wow. you look exactly what i looked like the day Adella was born at 40 weeks, bless your heart. I can't imagine your discomfort! hang in there big mama, it'll end soon. but GREAT that they and you are doing SO GOOD!

and i can't wait to see pictures of your cute BABIES!!

O man I remember having to ask help with my groceries when i pg. I am glad I am not pg anymore like that.... yes keep those babies in there as long as you can. NICU is a long hard road. But your over the danger zone too. good luck with everything.

You look amazing!!! Seriously! When we were Skype'ing with you the first time, you couldn't even tell you were pregnant until you stood up sideways. It was awesome!!

I do believe the photo of you in Costco is my absolute fav!!!! So cute and funny!!

I did notice your swollen feet... looks mighty familiar to me!! I feel your pain!! And, like you, I reverted to Crocs flip flops for the last couple of months of my pregnancy. Hopefully your feet won't grow a whole freakin' size like mine did. Oh well, the end result of the swollen feet, weight gain, stretch marks and so on is totally worth it!!

I'll be perfected....eventually...

I totally want to go to Costco with you, it would be the best laugh ever!!! :) That's great that you've made it this far, I can't wait to see these babies!! I wish I could come visit you and see that belly in person!! And be there to help you afterward with the little babes, but I would have to have both of my kiddos and I'm sure it would just add too much mayhem!!

Hi Sara,

I just found out my wife is having twins too. So I started blogging about it :)

She just made it to 12 weeks today.
We are very excited and trying to learn everything we can about pregnancy, twins, and parenthood right now. I would like to invite you to come and comment on my blog and maybe offer advice from time to time.
